Page 5 - Albert Delieu
P. 5
It is suspected that the dead crew members including Albert were buried near the crash site of
their Lancaster. Post war their remains were located by Allied search crews and the bodies
exhumed and reburied at the Commonwealth War graves Cemetery at Dürnbach near Bad Tölz in
Bavaria, Germany.
This site was chosen by officers of the British Army and Air Force in conjunction with the American
Occupation Forces, in whose zone Dürnbach lay. The great majority of those buried here are
airmen shot down over Bavaria, Wurttemberg, Austria, Hessen and Thuringia, who were brought
from their scattered graves by the Army Graves Service.
Albert married Jesse (nee Pemberton) a nurse, on the 16 December 1944, their marriage was
th
less than three months old before Jesse was widowed. After the war Jesse married an American
citizen and went back to America with him.
