Horace received the DFC on 7 December 1945 as a newly commissioned
Pilot Officer, eventually rising to Flight Lieutenant.
Horace Drew had risen through the ranks as a pilot, he completing a previous
tour of operations with 37 Squadron in the Middle East.
Sergeant Turton is second in from the right rear row.
The Lancaster is PB 753 X - Xray2. This Lancaster was on charge to ‘B’ flight
with 43 operations to her credit. Horace Drew and crew completing 10
operations in her.
The designation 2 or squared was used at RAF Elsham Wolds where 576
Squadron was formed and operated alongside 103 Squadron.
This symbol was used to differentiate 103 Squadron Lancasters from 576
Squadron with the same call sign. This symbol was used on many Lancasters
that went to Fiskerton when 576 Squadron was transferred to this airfield on
the 31 October 1944.
