173 Lancasters and 12 Mosquitos of No. 1, 6 and 8 Groups attacked the Harpenerweg plant at
Dortmund and the Mathias Stinnes plant at Bottrop. 3 Lancasters were lost on the Dortmund raid.
This bombing photograph taken from the crew’s Lancaster F- Fox (or Freddie) at the time the
Lancasters war load was released, it consisting of 1 x 4,000 lb high capacity demolition bomb
known as a ‘Cookie’ and 16 x 500 lb medium capacity bombs. 10 Lancasters from the Squadron
were tasked with this operation. 576 Squadron returning to Fiskerton without any loses. The
bombing photograph was taken at 16-30½ pm. The Lancaster was at 19,000 feet on a course of
047 degrees. The bomb detonators were the No 8c type fused at 4 seconds.
