This amazing colour photograph reproduced from its original black and white image
by late John Ward, President, 49 Squadron Association shows LM 439 J-Jig2 and
her dedicated ground crew at the Lancasters dispersal at the far south western end
of the airfield’s ‘A’ flight line. The tree line on the horizon is the Reepham to Fiskerton
road which was closed during the airfields operational life. Directly below
J - Jig2 nose is where the present-day nuclear bunker occupied by Primtake would
be constructed in the 1960’s. Fiskerton village is to the right behind the Lancaster in
the far-right distance.
As John Ward commented, “What I would give to have been there snow or no snow”.
So would we all!.
