showing the squadron strength on this operation to the German town of Weisbaden
The town located on the north bank of the Rhine near Frankfurt am Main.

                495 Lancasters and 12 Mosquitos of Nos.1, 3, 6 and 8 Groups attacked Wiesbaden.
3 Lancasters crashed in France. This was Bomber Command's one and only large
raid on Wiesbaden. There was complete cloud cover but most of the bombing hit the
town. 5 important war industries along the banks of the Rhine were untouched but
                                           the railway station was damaged.
On this raid the crew of 576 Squadron Flying Officer Sowerbutts failed to return.
They crashed near Kautenbach in Luxemburg with all the crew perishing. The cause
of this loss is not known. The crew are interned in the Commonwealth Graves
                                             Cemetery at Hotton, Belgium.
