The following photographs were taken in 2012 and show the crash site of what is believed to be
Flying Officer Bone's Lancaster. The site was excavated in 2012 outside the village of
Laumersheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany by Herr Uwe Benkel and his aircraft recovery
group, with the members of the local population assisting the group. The remains of crew
members were found in the wreckage which are in the process of being identified.
Two bodies were recovered from crash site in April 1943 and buried in Mannheim. In 1947 the
M.R.E.U (Missing Research & Enquiries Unit) exhumed these bodies but could not positively
identify them and they were buried in Durnbach as "Unknowns".
YouTube video’s showing the recovery and funeral of crew members found.
Recovery of the Lancasters remains left at the crash site.
