The crews Lancaster NG267 IQ-B (Baker) showing her magnificent nose art.
This was a brand new Lancaster allocated to the Markes crew on their arrival at Fiskerton.
Squadron designation IQ-B, call sign B - Baker. Serial No. NG264 built by the Armstrong
Whitworth aircraft factory at Badington. It was a B1 model fitted with Merlin 24 engines.
They had nose art on their previous allocated Lancaster at 550 Sqn, but it wasn’t taken to heart by
the crew. Fiskerton was where they first adopted “We Dood It Too”. The air bombardier Vernon
Wilkie had the caricature of Captain Reilly Ffoul (Ffoul is correct) of Daily Mirror cartoon strip fame
painted on the plane. Another crew at 550 had similar nose art with the phrase “We Dood It”, so
this plane became “We Dood It Too”. A pair of pink ladies “scanties” were also hung
on board for luck.
Many thanks to Graeme Davenport from Australia for assisting the Webmasters on this crew.
