This view of the crash site from the village of Untermosbach shows how close the surrounding
villages came to being destroyed by the falling bomber. The 4’000 Lb high-capacity demolition
bomb, known to crews as a ʻCookieʼ was ejected by the force of the impact into the wood. It laying
in this wood until Sunday March 30 1947 when the Torpex explosive filling in the Cookie was set
th
alight by two young lads from the village of Untermosbach and the bomb exploding.
