This photograph shows part of the plant room at Bedford. The bunker was self-
contained and had fuel reserves to allow operation of the generators and its life
support systems. Just prior to the standing down of the Corps in 1996 experiments
were being undertaken to install underground petrol supplies to further extend the
operational life of a R.O.C. bunker if a nuclear exchange had occurred.
