The Germans visited Fiskerton only once on 4 March 1945, and strafed the airfield, dropping
3 or 4 bombs which exploded in the middle of the airfield with do damage or casualties. In a
strafing run near Scampton the same evening a Luftwaffe fighter hit telegraph poles and the
aircraft crashed, crew are now interned at St john the Baptist churchyard in Scampton village.
