In July 1951, William received his degree in economics from the University of
Western Ontario in London, He was able to attend with the help of funding through
The Returning Veterans Education Assistance Act. The final year of his degree
program was completed at night school.
During that final year of his university program, William, along with two friends,
started what would become a successful construction company named. It was
named Tamblyn Pritchard Johnston. The three friends began the company by doing
many of the tasks themselves, like mixing the concrete and shingling roofs. With the
post war boom, the company quickly became successful and continued to build
custom homes in London and area for many years.
When William retired from construction, he enjoyed applying skills newly acquired
from an appraisal course at a local community college, and the wisdom gained from
being in the construction industry for many years, to working with a local appraisal
firm, Knowles Lansink.
Throughout his life he enjoyed times with family and friends. Of special delight to
him were his five grandchildren: Megan, Rob, Martha, Dave, and Ian.
