ʹWhanganui ʹ, named after a town in New Zealand was the pathfinder code name for
dropping target Indicators by parachute over the target when it was obscured by
cloud. It was also known as sky marking. These target indicators were dropped

parachutes off target. Continuous dropping of these target indicators was therefore
required to maintain the bombing accuracy of the Main Force crew’s.
