Archibald de Largy Greig started his operational flying from RAF Elsham

His first operation was on the evening of July 12 1944 to the French town of
Revigny flying in Avro Lancaster LM 439 J – JIG2
Archibald and the crew flew 18 times of their 30 operations in LM 594.

Promoted Pilot Officer in early 1945 and awarded the DFC on February

20 1945, Archibald was then posted to 1667 Heavy Conversion Unit (H.C.U.)
at RAF Sandtoft, North Lincolnshire where he trained new crew’s on the
Lancaster before these crew’s were sent to No.1 Group Main Force
operational squadrons. Archibald continued in the RAF post war and

promoted Flying Officer (War Subs) on February 28 1946.
