Flying Officer R.R.J. Young and crew
This, the crew of Flying Officer Roland Young flew in ME 801 just once, on the 16 /17 January
th
1945 to the German oil refinery at Zietz-Troglitz. This crew were lost en-route to the German City
th
of Dresden on the evening of 13 February 1945. Their Lancaster PD 232 O – OBOE2 collided
with a 405 (Pathfinder) Squadron Lancaster over the lower Saxony village of Remlingen some 15
Km North of Wurzburg and some 60 Km North West of Bamberg. Only the pilot of the 405
Squadron Lancaster survived.
Roland and his crew all perished and now lay together in the Commonwealth War Graves
Cemetery at Durnbach in Bavaria, Germany.
It is believed from the Squadron Operational Record Book that these are the crew’s trades.
