Flying Officer R.R.J. Young and crew







          This, the crew of Flying Officer Roland Young flew in ME 801 just once, on the 16 /17  January
                                                                                                    th

         1945 to the German oil refinery at Zietz-Troglitz. This crew were lost en-route to the German City
                                            th
          of Dresden on the evening of 13  February 1945. Their Lancaster PD 232 O – OBOE2 collided
         with a 405 (Pathfinder) Squadron Lancaster over the lower Saxony village of Remlingen some 15
             Km North of Wurzburg and some 60 Km North West of Bamberg. Only the pilot of the 405
                                             Squadron Lancaster survived.

             Roland and his crew all perished and now lay together in the Commonwealth War Graves
                                     Cemetery at Durnbach in Bavaria, Germany.



            It is believed from the Squadron Operational Record Book that these are the crew’s trades.
