Air Vice-Marshal Cecil Thomas Weir CB, CBE, DFC, KCVSA.

Cecil Thomas (Ginger) Weir was born on the 2 April 1913 in Glasgow, Scotland. The family
emigrated to Canada and Cecil receiving his education at Brentwood Collage, Victoria, British
Columbia. Cecil joined the Royal Air Force in September 1931 and undertook his flying training at
RAF Collage Cranwell in Lincolnshire with ʻAʼ Squadron and represented the RAF College at
Squash, Rowing and Rugby, he attaining the rank of Flight Cadet Corporal. After graduating Cecil

was promoted Pilot Officer (Service Number 33075) on the 15 July 1933. At some point in the
1930’s Cecil moved back to the UK and settled in the picturesque village of Charmouth in Dorset.
Later in the early 1960’s Cecil and his family moved to the United States settling in Washington
DC when he was appointed Deputy Head of the British defence staff at NATO.
