On the evening of 23 /24 July 1944 Bomber Command attacked the North German
port of Kiel. The bomb load was a standard area bombing one consisting of
1 x 4000 lb high capacity demolition bomb known to the crews as a ‘Cookie’ and
16 x 500 lb incendiaries.
