Bomber Command on the 5 August 1944 visited the Blaye oil storage facilities in

South Western France.The town of Blaye is situated on the right bank of the Gironde
estuary near Bordeaux. The aim was to disrupt fuel supplies to the German troops in
th
this area in preparation for the Allied landings which took place on the 15 August on
the south coast of France. This Allied landing was known as Operation Dragoon.
