Arial picture of RAF Fiskerton
It is believed this picture was taken in 1945. The main runway and the flames coming
from the F.I.D.O. pipes can be seen. (Fog Investigation and Dispersal Operation).
The burning of large amounts of aviation fuel by installing small diameter pipes along
the Main runway and igniting this fuel as it dripped from these pipes, thus burning off
the low lying fog shrouding the runway and allowed pilots to land. ‘A’ flight line and
the location of the dispersals and Lancaster call signs can be seen in this
photograph.
