2753 Squadron, RAF Regiment



                  Formed at RAF Islay on the island of Islay, Scotland in July 1941. The Squadron
                                                                    th
                 moved to RAF Turnhouse, west of Edinburgh 13  January 1942, then RAF Oulton,
                                  th

                 Norfolk on the 7  September 1942, becoming an Anti-Aircraft squadron on the 17
                                                                               st
                  May 1943. Moving to RAF Upwood, Cambridgeshire on 1  May 1944 then RAF
                                                      st
                  Allhallows-on-sea (Sheerness) 31  July 1944 in support of Operation Diver, the
                  interdiction of V1 Flying bombs. This RAF station was located on the North Kent
                   coastline covering the approaches to the Thames estuary. The Squadron then
                                                                     th
                moving to RAF Detling near Maidstone, Kent on 5  October 1944. The unit ceasing
                                                               th
                   to be an Anti-Aircraft Squadron on the 20  October 1944. 2753 Squadron then
                                                       th
                  moving to RAF Fiskerton on the 18  December 1944 as airfield defence, then to
                                                                             nd
                         High Wycombe (HQ Bomber Command) on the 2  February 1945.
                2753 Squadron finally moving to RAF North Witham, north of Stamford, Lincolnshire
                    th
                 15  November 1945.This airfield was used post war as a major bomb dump were
                bombs from the many surrounding airfields were brought for disposal then deposited
                by either barge or bomber into selected areas of the Irish and North Sea. The task of
                  this Squadron would be to guard these bombs until they were safely disposed of.
                               2753 Squadron disbanding on the 29  November 1945.

                                            2799 Squadron RAF Regiment



                Formed as No 799 Squadron at Grangemouth on 19  December 1941, having been
                                                                        th
                                                                st
                    unnumbered from the previous April. On 1  February 1942 all RAF Regiment
                squadrons had 2000 added to their numbers. It moved to the RAF Depot Belton Park
                in 1942 and converted to the Light Anti-Aircraft role in May 1943. The Squadron was
                              sent to a number of UK airfields to act as airfield defence.

                  These were RAF Acklington in Northumberland, RAF Castle Kennedy (Wigtown)
                 5 miles east of Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway. During the anti-Diver operations
                of 1944 it was based at RAF Hawkinge, near Folkestone, Kent. The Squadron then

                    moved to RAF Fiskerton, (moving out on the 18  December 1944 and being
                replaced by 2753 Squadron). Then moving to RAF Ingham, north of Scampton (from
                                               April 1945 to June 1945).

                The Squadron moving back to RAF Fiskerton on the 11  June 1945. 2799 Squadron
                                              disbanding in October 1945.
