The crew’s third operation was to Flensburg on the German coast. No. 1 Group were
tasked to fly in formation towards the captured German radar installations, so that
allied scientists could observe the radar tracks and, over time, make improvements
to the captured German equipment. This exercise would enable Allied scientists to
include the research undertaken by German radar scientists and lay the foundations
for future radar development.
