within two years be still alive.
The squadron’s aircraft on charge were the Hawker Hector bi-plane built under
licence by Westland Aircraft of Yeovil, Somerset.
The airframes power plant consisted of a Napier Dagger III 24 cylinder air cooled
H block engine giving 805 horse power.
With a maximum speed of 187 mph at 6,560 feet the Hector had a service ceiling of
24,000 feet and a range of 261 miles.
Armament 1x forward mounted ·303 Vickers machine gun.
Rear cockpit armament was a ·303 Lewis gun.
The Hector could carry a maximum of 2 x 112 lb bombs.
