Page 11 - Terence J Arbuthnot
P. 11
Date of picture not certain, probable 1937 to 1938. The aircraft is a Hawker Hind light
bomber. This was the last biplane to serve with the RAF.
Some 581 Hinds were produced between 1934 and 1937 when the last Hind rolled
off the assembly line. This type were withdrawn from front line service in June 1939.
The main characteristic of this type were the 'Rams horn' exhaust pipes as
seen in this picture.
Terence is seen in the front row with the moustache. The tropical uniform indicates
this picture was taken at RAF Chaklala, India when Terence was serving with
5 (Army co-operation) Squadron, his rank at this period being that of
Squadron Leader.
