operation that night, 15/16 March 1944 is a Main Force attack against the German city of
Stuttgart. 18 Lancasters from this Squadron taking part with one crew failing to return.
Possibly in this group of Airmen is the crew of Sergeant T.W. Waugh, the Pilot of the missing
Lancaster, shot down by a German night fighter. The Lancaster crashing at Bolstern some 88
Kilometres south east of Stuttgart. All the crew perished and are interned in the Commonwealth
War Graves Cemetery at Durnbach in Bavaria. That night Bomber Command lost 59 aircraft on
various operations, 42 of them on the Stuttgart operation alone.
