         The time spent in the Sydney holding depot was relatively brief because he was on a train on 24
          August 1942 from Sydney to Melbourne. In Melbourne Bill was mustered at No. 1 E.D. at Ascot
                                     Vale in readiness for his overseas departure.

         It is worth noting that Bill’s sister Dulcie had also volunteered for service in the W.A.A.A.F. and by
              the time Bill had completed his early training she had been appointed to an RAAF site in
            Melbourne. Bill and his sister undoubtedly met up in Melbourne prior to his embarkation for
           Canada. The plaque below is part of a memorial at the site of the No. 1 Embarkation Depot at
                                                       Melbourne.
