An unknown squadron Lancaster landing on Fiskerton’s main runway. The airfield
was fitted with F.I.D.O (Fog investigation and Dispersal Operation). 16 airfields were
equipped with this method of burning away fog using aviation fuel pumped into pipes
each side of the main runway. The fuel was then ignited and the fog dispersed thus
allowing returning crew’s a safe landing. The system consumed 100,000 gallons of
aviation fuel per hour.
