William, on starting his flying training was posted to No. 4 Elementary Flying Training
School at RAF Brough on the north bank of the Humber Estuary. This airfield, 12
miles west of Kingston upon Hull is now home to the British Aerospace factory
assembling the Hawk advanced jet trainer.
Elementary flying training being completed on the Tiger Moth Bye plane, at this time
the RAF’s standard elementary trainer.
