This photograph taken by the crew’s on board camera over Duisburg on the 21
February 1945 shows the effects on the city by the Main Force raid. The mid upper
gunner, Sergeant Cox was credited with downing a German Me 262 jet fighter. The
fighter attacked the crew’s Lancaster head on before being shot down at a range of
500 yards. The jet exploded and was seen to disintegrate into many pieces.
