This photograph, taken by John shows another 576 Squadron Lancaster flying below
the crew’s Lancaster. It is believed the photograph was taken on 8 March 1945
th
over the Kassel region of Germany on a daylight raid which 576 Squadron undertook
as part of Main Force. Bomb bursts can be seen below the Lancaster with smoke
rising from the target area. This operation included 262 Lancasters and 14
Mosquitos of No’s 1 and 8 Groups which carried out the first large raid on Kassel
since October 1943; it was also the last large RAF raid on this target.
1 Mosquito was lost.
