late Father was a 576 Squadron Airframe Fitter, stationed at Fiskerton in April
1945.
Ronald Beresford Kent (Ron in the RAF) Born 2 January 1926 at Kintbury,
nd
Berkshire. Ronald was called up for military service in early 1944 aged 18.
Initially Ron went to RAF Cardington, Bedfordshire for basic training, and then
went to No. 2 School of Technical Training at Cosford, Shropshire where he
trained as an Airframe Fitter.
Following initial training he was posted to RAF Coningsby, working in the
hangars continuing to learn his trade. Ronald was then posted to 625
Squadron at RAF Kelstern near Louth.
On the formation of the new C’ Flight in October 1944 Ronald became one of
the Airframe Fitter to Avro Lancaster B - Baker2. This Flight was transferred to
576 Squadron in April 1945, the rest of the 625 Squadron transferring to RAF
Scampton.
Ronald remained at Fiskerton until 576 Squadron disbanded on 13
th
September 1945 after which he was sent to the Middle East with 644
Squadron working on the Handley Page Halifax transport and Horsa and
Hamilcar gliders.
644 Squadron was re-numbered 47 Squadron, later returning to the UK and
stationed at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire.
Ronald was demobbed in 1948 and returned to Kintbury where he trained in
the bakery trade, taking over the business in 1963.
Ronald passed away on 11 November 1994 aged 69 years.
