Above, 576 Squadron Lancaster NN 806 M – Mike2 having swung off the main runway at

12-08pm on the 8 May 1945 on take-off, came to a stop with its undercarriage collapsed. This
aircraft, en-route to Rotterdam on Operation Manna (the dropping of food supplies to the starving
Dutch population) was the last Bomber Command aircraft damaged in the Second World War.
Twelve hours later hostilities ended. Flying Officer G.R. Cross sustained a suspected sprained
wrist. The rest of the crew, Captained by Flying Officer G.L. Scott exited the aircraft unharmed.
