21 OTU Operational Training Unit
Moreton in Marsh (Gloucestershire)
From 10-Oct-44 until 23-Feb-45
The 21 OTU was used by the RAF as the first stage of mustering airmen into crews, and it was
here that Bill would have first met his crew minus the Flight Engineer who joined the crew later at
possibly at RAF Lindholme or North Luffenham.
The crews at RAF Moreton in Marsh would initially be trained in the Vickers Wellington, a twin
engine medium bomber.

Note: The aircrews’ Flight Engineer would still be in separate training until required for the
4-engine Lancaster or Halifax.
