th
of the Luftwaffe’s Operation Gisela. It is believed 3 to 4 bombs were dropped on the
airfield. There were no casualties or damage to the airfield itself.
Nearly 200 German aircraft took part in this operation, tasked to destroy returning
English bombers as they circled their home airfields awaiting permission to land. 27
bombers were shot down with a further 9 damaged.
