In these two pictures we would have had the ‘B’ Flight dispersal area occupied by
576 Squadron. In this dispersal (in front of the electrical pole in the middle of this
picture) would have been 576 Squadron Lancaster R - Robert. The dispersal is at
the end of this perimeter track in the bottom picture. Post war, oil was discovered
under the airfield at a depth of 2,300 feet with a projected reserve of 300,000 tons. In
the bottom picture the Eastern end of the main runway is right with the technical site
in the tree line to the left.
