Two 576 Squadron Lancasters parked up on the grass section of the airfield. By April
1945 the squadron was enlarged with a flight from 625 Squadron at RAF Kelston.
The first airfield to be closed down by No. 1 Group. One Flight went to Fiskerton with
the remaining two Flights to RAF Scampton. This enlarged 576 Squadron to 31
Lancasters, so it is possible grass sections of the airfield in front of the Hangars
would have been used as dispersals. This photograph has the look of being taken
with the Hangars behind the photographer. The flatness of the ground behind these
Lancasters is consistent with the photographer looking west along the airfield, and
the building to the left has the look of being the Fire Tender shed with the
Watch Office to the left of the building.
